It’s always nice when you can kill two birds with one stone; or in this case, three. Das Optics provides high quality sunglasses to protect your child’s eyes (or yours), helps you give back to the organization of your choice, and supports a kid-founded business.
If you are in the market for a new pair of lenses for use on the bike (or any outdoor sport), make sure to consider Das Optics.
Review In A Nutshell
Pros:
- Raise money for your team, club, race, or non-profit
- Lots of eye coverage, UV protection
- Good quality glasses at an affordable price point
Cons:
- Only comes in one size, too big for younger riders
Price: $39.99
Best Fit For Pre-Teens / Teens
The Das Optics glasses, while marked for adults and kids, are really a best fit for adults or much older kiddos. My 8 year-old had fun wearing them, but they were tough for him to keep on. For pre-teens and teens, however, they glasses will provide a great fit, and they’ll love how cool they look.
Full Eye Coverage & UV Protection
The Das Optics provide LOTS of coverage, so your child’s eyes will be protected from dirt, mud, rocks, and other debris. And thanks to UV protection, they will also be protected from the sun. Developing eyes are a lot more sensitive than adult eyes, so you really want to make sure to provide your child with good eye protection.
Fit Well With A Helmet
Unlike sunglasses that aren’t necessarily intended for biking, the Das Optics glasses work well with a helmet. The top of the glasses slipped right under the visor without any interference. Likewise, the earpieces are slim and fit easily under helmet straps.
Come In A High-Vis Version
You’ll have the option of choosing the “Sendees” or the “High Vis Sendees.” Both have the same great lightweight frames, but the high vis version has yellow lenses for riding in lower light conditions.
Mid-Price Glasses Are High Quality But You Won’t Be Too Devastated If They Get Lost Or Damaged
While $40 isn’t exactly pocket change, the Das Optics glasses are reasonably affordable. Compared to other high-end sports glasses, these lenses are cheap enough that you won’t be devastated when your kiddo inevitably breaks them or loses them.
The glasses also come with a zippered case (with clip) to help keep the glasses safe when not in use.
$10 Donated To The Organization Of Your Choice
Have a youth mountain bike team or cycling club you are a part of? Buy a pair of Das Optics glasses and they will send $10 to your organization. Get the whole team to buy a pair, and you’ll be raising some pretty decent money for your team.
Includes Stickers
The glasses come with a sticker pack that you can customize your glasses with if you choose. Of course, this was my son’s favorite part (kids love stickers)!
Feel Good About Supporting A Kid Founded Business
My favorite part of Das Optics aren’t the glasses themselves, or even the idea of raising money for a worthwhile organization, it’s the fact that it was started by a kid. The company was the idea of a kiddo names Grady, who has received a little help from his dad. I’m a big fan of supporting budding entrepreneurs.
Bottom-Line: Get A Great Pair Of Glasses And Support Your Team Too
If your (pre-teen or teenage) kiddo is on a cycling team or club, get them a pair of these glasses and help raise money for their team. As a bonus, you’ll be helping protect their eyes, and they’ll feel pretty cool in a pair of these shades.
