This week, Woom announced the release of their new Woom OFF kids mountain bike line. We’ve long been a fan of Woom bikes and are excited that older kids will now be able to stay with the Woom brand when, and if, they become more serious mountain bikers.
“What starts as a natural urge to move develops over the course of childhood into a love of sport,” said Christian Bezdeka, CEO of Woom. “And for this important development phase we have designed the ultralight Woom OFF mountain bike.”
The Woom OFF is available in the Woom 4, 5, and 6 (i.e. 20″, 24″, and 26″ wheel sizes). All models feature the following:
- Promax hydraulic disc brakes
- A carbon fork
- High-volume Schwalbe Rocket Ron tires
- Through-axles on both the front and rear wheels
- SRAM X5 derraileur and trigger shifters
The fully-rigid mountain bikes are super lightweight. The 24″ Woom 5 OFF, for example, tips the scales at under 19 pounds.
This will make the Woom OFF a great option for petite kids, those who don’t need a suspension fork, and for cross-country racing.
The bikes closest competitor is probably the Orbea MX. The Orbea MX 24 Disc, for comparison, has a similar build and pricepoint. But the Woom 5 OFF is about 5 pounds lighter (a HUGE difference).
The only thing the Orbea has going for it that the Woom OFF doesn’t are tubeless-ready wheels; something we wish Woom would have included.
Overall, we’re super excited to see another capable LIGHTWEIGHT mountain bike option available for kids. And one that won’t make you take out a second mortgage on the house.
The bikes are now available for pre-order and will ship in late October. If you’re dying for a Woom with a suspension fork, don’t worry — that’s coming summer 2020.
Expect a full review soon!
